What are peptides?

Peptides are a family of substances that are molecularly constructed from two or more amino acid residues that are combined in a sequence of amide bonds. This term mainly refers to preparations consisting of a (alpha) amino acids, but it does not exclude products that are created from any other amino acids known to man.

Peptides are called oligopeptides if their sequence is built from less than 10-20 amino acid residues. In turn, polypeptides are substances that combine in a molecule on average from 10-20 to 50 amino acid residues. And when a polypeptide consists of 50+ amino acid residues, it is usually called just a protein.

Slowly but surely, scientists revealed the secrets of different sequences of peptides, which resulted in the appearance of new and more effective products, including those that are now highly popular in sports medicine.

Peptide drugs, represented today in the market of sports pharmacology, can be divided into three large categories:

• The first one is GHRP peptides (growth hormone-releasing peptides). They cause a pronounced increase in the concentration of growth hormone (up to 200%+), regardless of external factors such as drops or peaks of its secretion. In fact, all medical and sport peptides are produced as lyophilizate (substances for solution preparation), implying the need for such application stages as breeding and injection.

Dilution of a peptide is carried out with the help of an injection liquid, which is purchased separately or less often comes complete with the drug. As a rule, either an ordinary saline solution (sodium chloride 0.9%, freely sold in pharmacies) or special bacteriostatic water is used as a solvent (preferable option, as it protects the product from bacteria, extending its shelf life).

Storage of peptides before and after dilution is not a complicated process, but requires strict adherence to instructions. In dry form, the preparations should be kept away from exposure to light and moisture at a temperature of ≈ +4°C, if it is a short storage (up to several months), or at a temperature of ≈ -18-20°C, if it is a long storage (up to several years). Already dissolved products should also be kept in a dark and dry place at a temperature of ≈ +4 ° C, however, they have individual maximum shelf life: for example, solution GHRP-2 remains active for 30-35 days, and CJC-1295 DAC - up to 25-30 days.
